Strictly Business

When the Baron had come to me all those months ago, to lure my business away from Delmarii, and out to the desolate little burg that he Stewarded, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  He is a strange fellow, the Baron.  All business, no sense of humor, and zero interest in women.   He is however, very clever.  You could see it in his eyes, that cold calculation as he tallied people up like profits.  It was a behavior I could identify with, and one I recognized.  So when he came to me, all smiles and cooing his smoothly executed proposal, I had to admit, I was intrigued.  And so it came to pass, that I entered into a business partnership with Jayson Sendon.

Closing the old location in the city brought a lot of fond memories, and it was sad to watch as the workers boarded up the front doors.  But, as I traveled with the last of my personal belongings and the furniture from my suite, I felt as if this would be a positive experience, and things would only get better.  With the trouble I had endured with the sabotage of the parlor, the violence within my establishment, I had begun to lose business.  My place was gaining a reputation for arrests and incidents, and my regulars had all looked for greener pastures.  I really couldn't blame them.  With the rebels making it more and more difficult for me to operate, and then Jayson just coming out of nowhere and offering me a solution, how could I refuse?  He offered me protection that the City Guard simply could not provide.

Delmarii is a big city, they have a lot on their plates.  In Vermidian, I would one of only two nobles living in town, and after a tour of the location he wanted me to set up in, I was sold.  It was simply stunning.  I could tell he went the extra mile to impress me though I still had no idea why.  There were plentiful nobility with larger holdings and better reputations to invest in, why would he focus on me?  I still had not figured out his motives, but I none the less, saw wisdom in taking his offer.  Certainly he was an eligible bachelor, handsome, wealthy and our social rankings were a good balance, but in all the time I knew him, he had never shown the slightest interest in me beyond what profits might be made.  As far as I could tell, he wants no part of marriage. I find his disinterest somewhat refreshing considering my line of work and yet confusing at the same time.  He is a very, bewildering man.

It took the rest of the day to arrive and settle in, getting my suite into some semblance of order so that I might flop down upon my bed in exhausted contentment.  "The Estate" I murmur out loud as I stare at the ceiling above, tracing the ornate detail with my eyes, "he has spared no expense" I add thoughtfully.  He really did go all out on the place, and I had once again moved up in the world.  My suite was twice the size, and decorated quite tastefully.  I would of course have to put my own personal touch on the entire building, but that would come in time.  For now, I was going to enjoy my new place.  "The Estate" I repeat to the empty room and I sigh smiling into the fading light content to sleep in my clothes.  "You have come a long way girl".
